Geology

The Geology Group caters for those with an interest in the structure of the earth, and considers
the origin of geological features, the nature of rocks and rock formations, the fossil record,
and such varied subjects as volcanic and earthquake activity, the movement of continents,
mountain uplift, glaciation and the impact of man on the earth.

We watch videos, go on outings to relevant exhibitions or geological features of interest, have
the occasional speaker and listen to members' own contributions.

The Geology Group has a number of vacancies and would welcome some new members who are
interested in the formation and nature of the earth, including movement of continents, earthquakes,
volcanoes, fossils, gemstones , mountain formation, types of rocks, age and history of the Earth and
landscape development and features etc.

Meetings are held mainly in Carshalton Beeches and include videos, pieces prepared by members,
occasional speakers and some trips. Anyone interested is invited to come along to see how they like
it and should contact Valerie Brewer on 0208 241 4462 or wbls19238@blueyonder.co.uk

Our plans for future meetings and other events include a talk on gemstones, members' contributions,
some videos and the possibility of an outing to a Geology Festival in London.

The Geology Group meets each month on the morning of the third Thursday.
